Pranayama Weekend Intensive, Part 1

  • Nithya Priyan School of Yoga 235A South Bridge Road Singapore 058784 Singapore (map)

The use of regulated breathing and breath retention has clinically proven physiological effects that improve physical and mental functioning, providing improved mental clarity and the balancing of our autonomic nervous system.

In this practice based weekend intensive, Priyan will guide participants through a series of lectures and practice sessions that acquaint you with the Hatha tradition of Prana or energy regulation using the breath.

Who is this For?

This intensive is suitable for yogis of all levels, especially those seeking a deeper understanding that will take their practice beyond physical asana and unlock the true potential of the tradition.

What Is Covered?

  1. Introduction with evidence based exploration of its mental and physiological benefits.

  2. Guidelines for safe and effective Pranayama practice including time, place and preparatory practices prescribed by the Hatha tradition, so as to maximise its healing effects.

  3. History and grounding in the tradition of Hatha as it relates to the Five Bodies, Five Movements, Seven Energy Centers, Three Main Channels and the essential objectives of why we regulate these processes.

  4. Breakdown and Practice of the 11 Essential Pranayamas that every Hatha Yogi should be proficient in.

  5. Integration - Pranayama is not a practice in isolation, but needs to be understood as part of an integrated Yogic Lifestyle involving physical asana, cleansing practices, nutrition, self-study and meditation. An essential component of this intensive will explore this.
