“JOY IN THE BODY” COURSE MODULES
Deepen Your Practice with Our Weekend Intensives

Delve into the depths of your Asana practice with our transformative Weekend Intensives. Following the themes of our 27-week curriculum presented in the book "Joy in the Body" and explored in our Basic, Essential, and Intermediate level classes, these intensives will elevate your practice to new heights. They offer a comprehensive 127 hours of expertly guided Movement, Anatomy, and hands-on instruction.

ERYT500 certified Yoga Alliance instructor Nithya Priyan, author of "Joy in the Body" and founder of Nithya Priyan School of Yoga, will lead the workshops. Each one will echo Priyan's empathetic teaching style and encapsulate his decade-long experience in the Hatha/Vinyasa yoga tradition.


Each Workshop Features:

  • Daily 2-hour Masterclasses: Put your learning into practice in an immersive setting.

  • Anatomical Lectures: Gain deeper insight into poses through a kinesiological lens, enhancing safe and functional movement.

  • Injury Management and Prevention: Protect and nurture your body through informed practice.

  • Kinesiological Stretching Exercises: Discover advanced stretching exercises to target specific muscle groups across various movement ranges.

  • Pose Breakdown Sessions: Delve into the engagements, shapes, and poses of the 27-week curriculum, complete with variations and detailed breakdowns.

  • Hands-on Adjustments and Assists: Learn to guide others in entering, deepening, and exiting poses safely and effectively.

  • Weekday Assignments. Fun projects to keep your practice alive during the week.

The Modules

The three modules are conducted throughout the year and collectively provide 127 Hours of Lecture, Practice, Weekday Assignment Work and Hands-on sessions.

  1. THE SPINE
    Explore the kinesiology of the spine and the backbends, twists, and Side Bends of the School’s Asana curriculum.

    • Part 1 - Basic to Essential Level Poses (30 Hours)

    • Part 2 - Essential to Intermediate Level Poses (23 Hours)

  2. THE HIPS
    Journey from the ankles to knees, hips, and pelvis, delving into poses and themes of the curriculum that focus on these movements.

    • Part 1 - Basic to Essential Level Poses (23 Hours)

    • Part 2 - Essential to Intermediate Level Poses (23 Hours)

  3. THE SHOULDERS
    Investigate the biomechanics of the wrists, elbows, and shoulder girdle, with a special emphasis on arm balancing and inversions.

    • Part 1 - Basic to Essential Level Poses (14 Hours)

    • Part 2 - Essential to Intermediate Level Poses (14 Hours)

Who Should Attend?

  • Yoga enthusiasts looking to deepen their practice.

  • Yoga Teacher Training Graduates & Yoga Teachers seeking to enhance their anatomical and pose alignment knowledge.

    Note: A minimum of six months of consistent yoga practice is required to fully benefit from this course due to the complexity of the advanced poses explored.

Participants Will Receive

  1. A complimentary copy of Joy in the Body to be used as course material (one copy per yogi only regardless of number of modules attended).

  2. A Completion Certificate.

  3. For Yoga Teachers with a 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certification:

    • The option to claim your course hours as Continual Education Credits or count them towards a 300 Hour Certification (See our 300 Hour Course Page).

    • An invitation to apply for our Term Teaching Program, offering shortlisted candidates the opportunity to conduct yoga classes at Nithya Priyan School of Yoga for three months.

Upcoming Modules

All workshops are conducted on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am till 7pm at our Chinatown Studio, lunch break included.
